Have you heard the news? The UK’s Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) released its policy on Feed-in Tariffs for consultation this month bringing it one step closer to becoming law. Feed in Tariffs are tariffs that allow the owner of a wind turbine or any other renewable energy device to sell the electricity back to the electrical grid. Payments are per kWh generated. Please see below a short summary of the proposed policy outlined by BWEA: - Commitment to implement Feed in Tariffs for April 2010
- Option for all sub 50kW units to switch to Feed in Tariffs at this time
- Wind banding for products 1.5kW to 15kW, proposed tariff for this section is 23p/kWh
- Wind banding for products 15kW – 50kW, proposed tariff for this section is 20.5 p/kWh
- Proposed generation tariff levels + banding (NOTE: these levels do NOT include the export tariff (5p/kWh), or displaced import)
- LCBP grants and other grants will not affect Feed in Tariff eligibility
Tariffs are the price paid per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed, or in this case, generated
Logic Energy can provide you the right tools to not only assess a site potential but also to use the same equipment for later performance and availability check-ups. Our LeWL wind logger can help you discover how much wind energy could be available on your site in an inexpensive way. If you want to go a bit further, the telemetry unit LeNET is the perfect option to help you asses any potential site, track existing renewable energy systems and interface with imported energy to compare how well is the system offseting CO2. Small Scale Wind Turbines If you have been thinking about wind turbines, now may be the time to start measuring wind speeds to find out if your site is good enough to get a payback over the years with this coming Feed in Tariff. Before you jump into purchasing a wind turbine, do a bit of homework, in fact we have done a little bit for you already : See out HOW TOs >> We proud ourselves of having not just theoretical but also “on the field” experience with wind turbines. We work day to day with wind turbines installers, manufacturers, consultants and end consumers. |
